Senior Manager, Threat Management

About the Role


The Senior Manager, Threat Management will establish strategy, policies, and protocols to develop and manage GitHub’s Investigations, Event Security, Executive Protection, Workplace Violence, and Insider Threat programs. This role requires a motivated self-starter with a high level of empathy and outstanding executive presence, and an ability to leverage technology and systems to proactively mitigate potential threats and risks to a rapidly scaling company that has valuable core technology and real world physical operations. This role is U.S. remote, but should be located near a major international airport as travel will be expected (up to 40%). Most travel will be planned in advance.


  • Be a cultural leader for safety and security, who is proficient and highly experienced in incident management, investigations, event security, and executive protection.
  • Work extremely closely with the Global Physical Security Operations and Intelligence & Protective Services teams, leveraging their industry expertise and knowledge of GitHub’s culture to build best-in-class programs. 
  • Manage GitHub’s Workplace Security Investigation and Incident Management function, including conducting investigations into incidents of online harassment, workplace violence, and insider threat. 
  • Partner closely with GitHub attorneys, conducting high profile and/or sensitive investigations on behalf and under the direction of Corporate and External Legal Affairs and/or Human Resources.
  • Create and manage an Event Security program including the planning and execution of all physical security for major business events to ensure a safe environment for Hubbers and guests. 
  • Working closely with the Director of Intelligence and Protective Services, build an executive protection program to ensure the safety and security of our executives and VIPs, to include managing on- and off-site assessment, planning and coordination.
  • Build a global Workplace Violence Prevention program including creating and presenting an on-brand Active Shooter training throughout GitHub’s offices.
  • Identify, vet, and manage contracts and relationships with security vendors related to investigations, event security, and executive protection needs. 
  • Develop and document standards of measurement of quality and effectiveness of programs.
  • Develop and maintain a wide variety of cross-functional relationships within GitHub and with various law enforcement, government, and private sector partners.

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience with a major law enforcement organization, including experience conducting and managing high profile, complex investigations.
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, effective at building trust
  • Strong strategic planning skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and resource deployment
  • Solid project management skills with ability to achieve results
  • Demonstrated experience with budget planning and management
  • CPR/AED and First Aid qualifications
  • Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation
